Ash Art Facts

The creative process begins as I sprinkle the ash into a clean metal dish. I start to melt a clear glass rod with a large torch, and when it turns red hot, the glass is as soft as honey. It is at this soft stage that I am able to dip into the ash and add the colored glass. As they melt in, I am able to twist, pull and form the desired shape. When the design and shape are complete, the glass is placed in a kiln, which allows it to anneal and cool without bursting. The following morning the kiln is opened to reveal the beautiful new artwork!

• Knowing personal information about the deceased helps me with the creative process, so please feel free to share a few details with me!

• The ash can create a variety of effects: sometimes it appears as sand or looks like bubbles. On occasion the ash will cast a color of its own.

• Each piece takes about 1/8 of a teaspoon of ash. Please mail the ash in a Ziploc bag. Any unused portion will be returned with your finished artwork.

• The type of glass that I use is Borosilicate. It is equivalent to Pyrex, which means that it is very durable! If someone does manage to break a piece, I will do my best to repair it for FREE.

Order forms and brochures come with each display, and they can both be printed from my website. The order form itself is quite simple. All of the pendants come with a black satin cord, so please remember to indicate the lengths needed for the order. The length options are 16", 18", 20" or 24". There is no additional charge for the longer lengths.

The samples of ash art provided with my display are a pretty standard size. I am happy to make a piece larger or smaller at no additional charge – just make good notes in the comment section of your order and base the size on coins, i.e., the size of a dime or silver dollar. If the customer would like to see a lot of ash in their piece, please include that information in the comment section of the order form.

I do have a variety of other glass colors to choose from that are not shown in the display. If your customer does not see exactly what they are looking for, or if they say that they would have bought one if it were a different color, then you can call me or have them call me to see if I have their favorite color available. There is no charge to change colors.

Customization is available to include images such as a name, fingerprint, or tattoo. Custom orders are bid per project. Please visit the Custom Glass tab for details.

• As soon as I receive an order, I make a confirmation call or email to the contact listed on the order form. When the completed order has been mailed back to you, I will confirm it with an email or phone call.

• You pay to mail the ash and order to me. I will pay to ship the product and the remaining ash back to you, using the United States Postal Service with delivery confirmation.

• Payment is to be made with the submitted order form unless prior arrangements have been made with me.

• My turn-around time is 2 weeks from the time I receive the order.

My goal is to provide a beautiful, consistent and truly unique product. I want for our customers to have a piece of art that they will cherish for years. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or feedback at 970-576-5546 or email to Tiffany@RedManxStudio.com.
